FEATURING
ONE TRUE BEAR

In the tradition of The Velveteen Rabbit comes One True Bear, the story of Darcy Brewster, one brave teddy-bear cub, who accepts a real challenge—to be a true friend to Damian, a boy who has a long history of destroying his toys. Ready, willing, and able to love and comfort Damian, even if it means putting his own fur on the line, Darcy manages to capture Damian’s heart and imagination, as well as that of any reader. This talk starts with a reading of the book followed by sketches and the stories of the books' creation, including how schoolchildren provided much of the story and even decided upon the ending.
I do two versions of this talk. One is directed at teachers, librarians, professionals, and interested parents. The other is suitable for children from age 5 upwards.

CRISPIN THE PIG

A light-hearted satirical polemic on how childhood imagination and the forces of consumerism are often at odds with each other.

*Note that I am amongst the many members of the Society of Authorswho oppose the growing trend for institutions to request CRB certification for visiting authors to schools. It will become required by law for visiting authors to produce this certification after November 2010, so I'm afraid I'll be adding an additional £10 to my fees to cover the costs, admin time, and humiliation of having to procure this unfortunate certification.
